Me: "Who has the best seat in the house, me or daddy?"

Adam: "Well, Daddy's is nice, but yours is best. Your's is squishier."

Snow Day!

We promised the kids a snow day way before Christmas, but sickness, storms and other legitimate conflicts were getting in the way. We finally went yesterday.

"Are we there yet?" they repeated over and over.

Finally, we started seeing patches of snow, then more and more, and finally... SNOW! Enough to play in.

But oh, no, with all of the packing and layering we somehow left Tess's coat at home!

Wrap her in a giant wind breaker, tie it up with a car seat strap, and off to play!

Wahoo!

Uh-oh! Mom, look out! (Crash!)

And everyone was having a (snow) ball!

Guy embellished the snow woman, making her anatomically correct, but Ethan said it was "inappropriate", and performed a reductive surgery (Shhh, don't tell him I told you, he was already mortified that his father would be so... so...INAPPROPRIATE!).

It had all been going so nicely. But then, it happened...

First Adam crashed and got ice-rash,
then Ethan took "one more run" and lost it.

In ten minutes, we went from 4 smiling kids to 3 crying ones (well, Ethan mostly made very awful faces and groaned a lot). Tessa was cold, tired, and hungry. Ethan had a twisted ankle and a bunged-up thigh. Adam was dramatically spitting blood into the snow.
.
But you know, the day was not in ruins. After hot cocoa, egg sandwiches and dry towels, we peeled off the layers and climbed in the van. Sniffles still coming from the back seat, I heard a little voice say, "Well, that was still fun anyway." Little agreements floated to the front, and I looked back to see smiles. Between contests of who crashed the most and who hurt the worst, were tales of wild rides down monster slopes and snowballs that had met their mark.

Laughter filled the space.
.
Some days are perfect, even with the crashes.

hiya, this post was hilarious. What a great day. Some of those shots really captured the terror and excitement of the slopes. I especially like the last one where they're all sleeping. What a perfect day. Guy, you are very naughty! (But, somehow, I can't imagine you building any other kind of snowwoman.) You all are the best, love you!
